The picture at the start of this report was taken just 10 nights ago and we were sure the season was well underway and there would be no turning back. Today it was time to see what the warm temps had done over the last week and how much we had really lost. Started at the lot on 112 and headed south to see how bad things were down at the state line and then head north and check a few other areas. Our lot is back to grass but the trail head leading out has enough cover and is holding as is most of our trail system. Very surprised that our base is holding but the rain tonight will for sure change things by morning. All the brooks and creeks are full and water is running down them at a rapid pace. There are some bare areas but not as many as one would expect. Some fields have lost very little and others have lots a lot. Water bars are not as bad as early season but a few of the larger ones have opened up and make passing over them a little tricky. It has been a great season so far and being able to open the trails on 12/16 was a huge bonus, and outside of a brief closing we have been up and running. So thankful we had the great snow cover for Snow Fest and the riding during most of February has been just great. The 5 inches we received 2/1 followed by the 12+ on 2/9 and then, following that up with the 16 on 2/12 had everything working in the right direction to ride it out until 4/15. But now old Mother Nature has stepped in once again and put a hold on things. It was 66 outside and the sun was shining most of the afternoon, so it was hard to complain about the conditions. We are now looking forward to this little dry spell and warm up to move on out and hopefully soon we can get back to some more grooming and riding.
