President's Letter

25 September, 2011

Dear Members:

It’s that time again to gear up for the snowmobile season. As most of you probably know, our State was hit extremely hard in the spring with flooding and again most recently by “Irene”. Certain areas of our State were and still remain devastated by the damage and destruction of businesses, homes, farm lands, snowmobile trails, etc. state wide. Because of this and the millions of dollars that it will take to rebuild the hardest hit areas and trail system within our State, it was voted upon yesterday at the Vast Annual Meeting which was held in Middlebury, Vermont at the Middlebury High School that a $15.00 dues increase was necessary and will take affect this snowmobile season.

The $15.00 dues increase mostly level funds the VAST network of trails with a portion of it going to help rebuild trails. We hope to have 95-100% of our trails open this winter but it will take a large effort and thousands of dollars. Many think that the trail pass fee is too expensive. However, without the thousands of hours donated by volunteers, the pass would be much more. We will only get a portion of funds from VAST and rest will be up to the club which is all of our members. So, if you are unable to donate some of your time to help work on the trails, perhaps you might consider a donation to help open 100% of our trails?

Our annual fund raiser dinner/dance, will be held on Saturday, January 14th at the American Legion in Island Pond. We regret to tell those that may have been interested in attending this function that the tickets are completely sold out for this year already. If you have questions, please feel free to call our Island Pond Welcome Center at 723.9889 or Mark Clough at 723.5014.

For information regarding where and what time to meet, please call our trail master, Dave Page at 723.5041. PLEASE, call ahead (no later than 6pm on Thursday) before you come to make sure a project is in fact scheduled for that
